Walkway panel heaved, sank or cracked near the front steps? Call us any time. Our local concrete professionals inspect the trip edge, slab and drainage, then compare lifting with replacement and check whether the work lies on private property or in the public right-of-way.

What it covers
Our Sidewalk and Walkway Concrete Services in Cottage Grove
- Ownership check. Your technician separates the private walk to the door from a public sidewalk panel before a repair is quoted.
- Trip-edge assessment. A sound settled panel may fit leveling; broken pieces or ongoing root movement need a different scope.
- Base and grade. The plan identifies excavation, compaction and a cross slope that sheds water without creating a winter sheet of ice.
- Joints and transitions. New panels need control joints and isolation where the walk meets steps, driveways or the house.
- Access during curing. If the front walk is the only entrance, the scope includes a temporary path and a walking-return date.

Signs
Signs You Need Sidewalk and Walkway Concrete
- A raised joint catches a shoe or walker
- A public sidewalk panel has dropped near the curb
- Water ponds and freezes across the walk
- Tree roots keep pushing one panel up
- Cracks break a narrow slab into pieces
- An entry step and walk separate at their joint
How it goes
Our Sidewalk and Walkway Process
- Locate the panel. Give the Cottage Grove address, photos of the trip edge and whether it is the private entry or street sidewalk.
- Confirm the authority. Your technician checks the slab and grade while the city confirms right-of-way responsibility and any permit.
- Choose the work. Lift, repair or replacement is described with base, joints, access path and price before concrete work starts.
- Return the route. After approved work, the transition and drainage are checked and walking and first-winter care are explained.
Cost
What Affects the Cost of Sidewalk and Walkway Concrete in Cottage Grove
A private entry walk and a public-sidewalk panel can carry different costs:
- Panel count. One private slab differs from several public-sidewalk panels with a boulevard to restore.
- Lift or tear-out. A sound dropped panel can have a smaller scope than broken concrete needing new base.
- Roots and water. A recurring root or drainage issue needs a plan beyond a fresh surface.
- Access and permits. Right-of-way review, inspection and a temporary entrance can change the quote.
For sidewalk and walkway concrete, one of our local concrete partners will walk you through the scope and the price before any work starts. See the concrete cost factors note for walk-panel inputs; right-of-way work needs its own scope.

Before you call
Before You Call About a Walkway
Photograph the trip edge and keep people clear. Ask the city who handles a street sidewalk and its right-of-way permissions. Eagan's driveway handout concerns driveway work, including street-edge review; it does not settle public sidewalk rules for every town. For a new private walk, NRMCA joint guidance favors near-square panels and joint spacing related to thickness; a four-foot walk often gets joints roughly every four to six feet. Plan cross slope and isolation at steps so meltwater has a safe path.

FAQ
Sidewalks & Walkways FAQs
Who fixes the public sidewalk in front of my house?
Responsibility and permits for public sidewalks are set city by city. Call us with the address, and ask your city's engineering or public works department who is responsible for the panel, whether a right-of-way permit is needed, and who restores the boulevard afterwards. Your town guide links the right office.
Can a sunken sidewalk panel be raised instead of replaced?
Often, if the panel is whole. Slabjacking pumps a cement-based slurry or polyurethane foam under the slab to lift it back to grade. It will not help a panel that is broken into pieces, and if water washed the base out, the drainage has to be fixed too or the panel can sink again.
Should a new walk be sealed?
It can help. A breathable silane- or siloxane-based sealer lets an exterior walk shed water and salt, applied when the concrete is reasonably dry, ideally in late summer. It does not replace air-entrained concrete or proper curing, and the same NRMCA guidance says to keep deicers off the walk in its first winter.
Can a walkway trip edge be repaired without replacing every panel?
Often. If the panel remains sound and the base has settled, lifting may restore grade. A broken panel or root movement can require removal and a different base plan. Ask your technician to show the exact panels included so a focused repair does not become an unexplained full walkway replacement.
Will I be able to use my front door during sidewalk work?
Ask for the access plan in writing. Removal, forms, inspection and curing can close the usual path at different times, and a temporary route may be needed for deliveries or anyone with limited mobility. Your technician should give a walking-return window for the actual mix and weather, not an automatic early opening.
Call with the Cottage Grove walkway location and a photo of the trip edge so ownership and repair options can be checked.
